FAQ
Are you currently accepting new clients?
Yes, I’m currently accepting new clients. To get started, please email me at Johnchapmancounseling@gmail.com to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call. During this call, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you have, and see if we’re a good fit. If it feels right, we’ll schedule your first therapy session.
Do you accept insurance?
In California: I currently accept Aetna and CenCal insurance for therapy clients in California.
In Oregon: I do not accept insurance at this time for therapy clients in Oregon.
Superbills: I’m happy to provide a superbill in both California and Oregon. A superbill is a monthly itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. This can be a helpful way to offset the cost of therapy. Please note that you’re responsible for verifying your out-of-network mental health benefits directly with your insurance company.
In what states do you work?
California: I offer both in-person therapy in Santa Barbara, California and online therapy throughout the state. My Santa Barbara office provides a warm, supportive environment for clients seeking individual therapy, depth-oriented psychotherapy, or counseling during life transitions.
Oregon: I also work with clients across Oregon via telehealth (online therapy). I travel to Bend, Oregon quarterly and offer in-person therapy sessions during those visits.
Who Do You Work With?
I work with teens, adults, and couples navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, or a loss of meaning and direction. Many of my clients are reflective, creative, or spiritually curious individuals seeking a deeper understanding of themselves.
I also work with men exploring emotional growth, identity, and purpose, and with people in recovery who are rebuilding their lives and seeking greater wholeness.
My approach is depth-oriented, drawing from Jungian psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients cultivate insight, authenticity, and lasting change.
What is your Fee?
I charge $150 per 50-minute session. Most therapy sessions take place once a week. I devote a few slots in my schedule to working with clients at a sliding scale based on financial need.
